Dr. Derek Weigand grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 2006. He continued his education at the University of Mary where he majored in Biology and minored in Chemistry, Philosophy, and Theology. In college he founded the University of Mary Pre-Dental Club; he also served as the club’s president. He went to Dental School at Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine and graduated in 2013. Dr. Weigand is trained in Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards (OSHA), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), CPR, and Oral Conscious Sedation. He is also a member of American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID), American Orthodontic Society (AOS), American Dental Association (ADA), and Academy of General Dentistry (AGD).
Not only does Dr. Derek enjoy bettering the health of his patients, he also enjoys giving back to the community by volunteering for community service projects like Give a Kid a Chance, Dentistry from the Heart, and Veteran’s Day Free Dentistry. He also went on a dental mission trip to the Polynesian Kingdom of Tonga in March of 2011. Dr. Weigand and the other participants provided a variety of dental services ranging from simple cleanings to extractions and root canals for the Tongan people. He has been married to his wife, Holly, for six years and has two children with a little boy, Christian, on the way! Their son Colton is 3 and their daughter Elaina is almost 2 years old. In his free time Dr. Weigand enjoys hunting, fishing, spending time with his wife and kids, and watching the University of Alabama’s football team dominate the field.
